my reading assignment about paragraph

hi friends.... great day today..... about two weeks ago I had presentated about paragraph... hopefully this is can help us especially for students of english department....hre are summary of my presentation :
PARAGRAPH DEFINITION
 A paragraph is a basic unit of organization in writing in which a group of related sentences develops one main idea.
 It is also a matter of organizing relevant information in such a way that helps readers to understand a paragraph more easily.
The Three Parts of Paragraph
1. Topic Sentence
It states the main idea of the paragraph .It not only names the topic of the paragraph but it is also limit the topic to one or two areas that can be discussed completely in the space of a single paragraph. Specific area called the controlling idea.

2. Supporting sentences
It function to develop the topic sentence which explain the topic sentence by giving reasons, examples, facts, statistics, and quotations.

3. Concluding sentence
It signals the end of the paragraph and leave the reader with important points to remember.

Two Additional Elements
Unity
The discussion only one main idea in a paragraph The main idea is stated in the topic sentence and every supporting sentence develops that idea. For example :If you are going to write about the characteristics of gold, discuss only those do not add the price, history, etc
Coherence
It means that our paragraph is easy to read and understandable which connect the transition signals ( first, secondly, furthermore, then, after that…)

How to Write A Title
 A title tells the readers what the topic of paragraph is. It is usually a word or phrase, not a sentence. It should be brief but not too brief that is does not tell the readers what to expect.
 The title must be :
1. The first, last, and all important words in a title are capitalized. Prepositions and articles are not important words. Articles that begin the title are capitalized.
2. The title is not underlined
Example : My Great Experiences in Bali
Characteristics…
Topic sentence
 It is a sentence
 It has a controlling idea
 It may be statement of intent or a statement of an opinion.
Concluding sentence
 It signals the end of paragraph
 It summarizes the main points of the paragraph or repeat the topic sentence but using and choosing other words.

Important points
A good topic sentence
 Is a complete sentence with a subject, a verb, and generally a complement.
 States both the topic and controlling idea of the paragraph.
 is neither too general nor too specific . It states the main idea clearly.
 Is usually (not always) the first sentence in the paragraph.
A good concluding sentence
 Signals the end of paragraph
 Summaries the important points briefly.
 Used concluding words (for examples : in conclusion, in summary, in my opinion, I believe, to conclude, finally etc.)

Analyze of a good topic sentence
 Too general : American Food is Terrible
 Too spesific : American Food is Tasteless and Greasy because Americans Use too Many Canned , Frozen, and Prepackaged Foods
 Good : American Food is Tasteless and Greasy

 Topic : American Food
 Controlling idea : is Tasteless and Greasy
